Mobile recording tips

Most yaps come in from phones, so a few things to know.

Camera and mic permissions

The first time a client opens their board (or a one-off link), the browser asks for camera and mic access. They have to tap Allow. If they tap "Block" by accident:

  • iPhone Safari: Settings → Safari → Camera → Allow
  • Android Chrome: tap the lock icon in the URL bar → reset permissions

In-app browsers

Yapflo boards and recording links work best in a real browser (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android). They don't always work in Instagram's, TikTok's, or Slack's in-app browser, because those sandboxes block camera access.

Yapflo detects this and shows a banner: "Open in Safari to record." Coach your clients to expect this once and they'll never hit it again.

How long can a yap be?

Up to 15 minutes or 200 MB, whichever comes first. In practice most usable yaps are well under 2 minutes — and Yapflo's AI Cut works best on shorter material.

Quality

Yaps record at the camera's native quality (usually 1080p portrait on a recent phone). You don't lose anything by recording on a phone vs. desktop — the only thing that matters is light and sound.

Coming soon: a native iOS app?

We're considering shipping a native iOS app to push recording quality past what the browser allows — better stabilization, higher bitrates, and a friendlier permission flow. If that would unblock you or your clients, email hello@yapflo.com and we'll move it up the queue. The more producers tell us they want it, the sooner it ships.
